ROSWELL, Ga. -- Friday, March 2 was a day of double celebration for the students at River Eves Elementary School.

It was the fifth annual Career Day, which meant that 29 guest speakers visited the third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms to talk to students about their various vocations.

But March 2 is also Dr. Seuss' birthday, not to mention Read Across America Day. Teachers and students alike celebrated by wearing their pajamas to school, making green eggs and ham, and enjoying a special green treat at lunch.

"Tying these two events together was a natural fit," River Eves principal Neil Pinnock said. "We strive for all students to enjoy reading and writing. By showcasing how these skills are at the center of many different careers in different ways opens their eyes to what is possible. We are very grateful to all the professionals and parents who shared their valuable time and insight with our students."

Students selected the topics they were most interested in learning about ahead of time, and spent their mornings rotating between presentations from the Career Day speakers. Last year, 11Alive's own Randy Waters was a featured speaker, telling students about his life as a sports anchor.
