Help 'Keep Roswell Beautiful' at Big Creek Work Day

ROSWELL, GA -- There is still time to register for the Big Creek Wetlands Work Day on Saturday, Mar. 5.

Join the City of Roswell, Keep Roswell Beautiful and Sam's Club from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Big Creek Wetlands Park (1600 Old Alabama Road, Roswell, 30076).

Volunteers will restore the wetlands, add plants and clean up litter on the banks. Families are encouraged to come out and help. A free lunch will be provided for anyone who registers before Tuesday, Mar. 1.

Public Invited to Weigh In on Crabapple Crossroads Master Plan

MILTON, GA -- The public is invited and encouraged to attend a special Crabapple Crossings plan meeting on Monday, Mar. 14 at 5:00 p.m. at Milton City Hall (13000 Deerfield Parkway, 30004).

The meeting, presented by Roswell-based Lew Oliver, Inc., Whole Town Solutions, will delve into the transportation, connectivity, building design, identity and long-term planning needs of the Crabapple Crossings community and Milton's future City Center.

There will be a short presentation and discussion on a number of topics, including zoning tools like the transfer of development rights, which is a potentially powerful conservation option that could greatly influence the area's "village" concept.

The goal of this process is updating and retooling the existing Crabapple Crossroads Master Plan to more accurately reflect the economic, transportation and growth realities of the area.

Now Kids Can 'Imagine Roswell 2030'

ROSWELL, GA -- The City of Roswell is holding a contest challenging local youth to imagine their city in the year 2030.

Roswell residents and students attending schools in the city, grades 1-12, are invited to participate. Winners will receive prizes that have been donated from Roswell businesses.

Children in grades 1-4 must submit a color drawing of how they "Imagine Roswell" to be in 2030, including people, homes, businesses and/or parks.

Children in grades 5-8 must submit either a poster or written essay. These submissions should include people, homes, businesses, parks and the redevelopment of a specific area of Roswell.

High school students (grades 9-12) must submit a multi-media project using an essay, video, photography and/or visual art of how they "Imagine Roswell" to be in 2030.

ROSWELL, GA -- The Roswell Library (115 Norcross Street, Roswell, 30075) and Roswell Reads Committee are pleased to announce the 2011 Roswell Reads selection: My Name is Mary Sutter by Robin Oliveira.

The novel is a piece of historical fiction about Mary Sutter, a headstrong young midwife who is determined to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The National Park Service (NPS) will be initiating an Environmental Assessment (EA) to consider alternatives and environmental impacts related to a proposed trail project that includes sections within the boundary of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

The trail project is sponsored by the City of Roswell as part of the Roswell Riverside multi-use trail and would serve as a link within the overall trail plan for the area.

The purpose of the trail would be to extend the existing riverside trail system along Willeo Road between Azalea Road and Willeo Park.

Prior to initiating the EA, the NPS is seeking comments and input from the public during a 30-day project scoping period.

Roswell Parks Offer Safe Play Areas During Holidays

ROSWELL, GA -- Is Santa bringing the kids a scooter, a bike or a skateboard for Christmas?

If so, and the kids need a safe place to ride their new treasures, the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department will be providing "Safe Play Areas" from Friday, Dec. 24 through Sunday, Jan. 2.

Parking lot areas in three different parks will be blocked off and open all day:

* Roswell Area Park (10495 Woodstock Road)
* East Roswell Park (9000 Fouts Road)
* Hembree Park (850 Hembree Road)

Book Sale, Antique Book Road Show in Roswell

ROSWELL, GA -- The Friends of the Roswell Library will hold a holiday book sale on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Roswell Regional Library (115 Norcross Street, Roswell, 30075).

The book sale will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attendees can purchase beautiful holiday gifts for the whole family.

As a special bonus, Giles Hollingsworth, a rare book dealer, will be in attendance from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. He will appraise old and rare books, free of charge. It's the Friends' version of the "Antiques Road Show!"
