Fulton Commission Chairman honored by Fulton-DeKalb Hospital Authority

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Commission Chairman, District 1, John H. Eaves received the Grady Champion Award during the 2nd Annual “Honoring Healthcare Champions Awards.”

Chairman Eaves was one of eight community leaders, medical professionals and non-profit executives honored by the Hospital Authority for their leadership in efforts to support Grady Hospital and build healthier communities.

The awards dinner followed the 2013 Health Summit, which brought governmental leaders and healthcare professionals together to discuss healthcare issues affecting Fulton and Dekalb counties.

The Healthcare Champions were honored for research, advocacy, donations and inspired leadership.  Standing with Chairman Eaves (center) were Pete Correll (left), Chairman of the Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation and Thomas Dortch, Chairman of the Fulton-Dekalb Hospital Authority Board of Trustees.

3 Roswell rowers sign college scholarships

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Three talented young women with the St. Andrew Rowing Club have signed National Letters of Intent to row in college.

Erin Hayes is a senior at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. She earned a scholarship to be a coxswain for the University of Alabama's women's rowing team. Erin is pictured with sister Emily, mother Ellen and father Stephen. Standing behind her are St. Andrew Rowing coach Dana Zakshevsky, St. Andrew Rowing coach Bridget Folwer, St. Andrew Rowing head coach Ted Swinford and St. Andrew Rowing coach Eszter Bardi.

Devon Erickson signed a letter to row for the University of Texas at Austin. She attends the Marist School in Brookhaven, and is pictured with Marist School aquatic director Terry Blish, Marist School assistant athletic director Chandler Yount, St. Andrew Rowing coach Bridget Fowler and swim coach Tim Storsteen.

ATLANTA -- Many of metro Atlanta's most talented performers, directors and theater crew members descended on DeKalb County Monday night for the 2013 Suzi Bass Awards.

Every year, the Suzis honor the best theater productions in the area. Awards are given in two areas -- plays and musicals.

The Aurora Theatre's staging of Les Misérables was one of this year's big winners. It took home five Suzi Awards, including Outstanding Musical Production, Outstanding Director of a Musical and Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical.

ATLANTA -- The nominees for the 2012-13 Suzi Bass Awards were announced Monday.

This year's Suzi Nomination Party was held at 7 Stages Theatre in Little Five Points and was hosted by past Suzi winners Ingrid Cole and Glenn Rainey.

The Suzi Awards are named for Suzi Bass, a well-loved Atlanta actress who died of cancer in 2002. Every year, they honor some of the best theater productions in metro Atlanta.
