Healthy lawns begin with soil testing

Healthy lawns begin with soil testing

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Nutrient rich soil makes it possible to have a beautiful lawn and blooming flowers. Developing and maintaining productive soils begin with soil testing. Soils tests provide information on the soil’s actual nutrient status. Test results are used to determine the amount and kind of nutrients that should be added for the best growth of lawn, garden, and other types of plants.

“Cooperative Extension is able to help residents with their gardening questions,” states Menia Chester, Director of Fulton County Cooperative Extension. “We are equipped to assist residents in having their soil tested by the University of Georgia (UGA) Extension office.”

Area unemployment rate climbs in January

(WXIA) -- Metro Atlanta's unemployment rate climbed to 6.2 percent in January.

That's up from December's 6.0 percent, but considerably lower than the 7.1 percent in January 2014.

Fulton County's unemployment rate was 6.5 percent this January.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said the rate increased because of the loss of about 35,100 jobs, mostly seasonal positions.

But the Atlanta area had the largest January-to-January job growth ever recorded, adding 104,400 jobs over the course of the year.

The metropolitan Atlanta area consists of 29 counties, including the recently added Morgan County.

Metro Gainesville had January's lowest jobless rate, at 5.2 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest, at 8.3 percent.

Nick Gordon not sober during 'Dr. Phil' chat

Nick Gordon not sober during 'Dr. Phil' chat

We saw a very upset Nick Gordon storm out of his interview with Dr. Phil McGraw in a video released Monday.

Now, we're learning that he was "volatile" and emotionally distraught about girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown during the taping of Wednesday's Dr. Phil episode.

"He said he had an enormous amount of guilt and pain" about Brown, Dr. Phil told AP's Lynn Elber in an interview Monday.

The 22-year old daughter of the late Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown has been on life support at Emory University Hospital since Jan. 31 after being found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Georgia home. Gordon thought of Houston as a mom after she took him in at the age of 12.

The taping is being described as an intervention. And that's because, as Dr. Phil says, Gordon was "clearly in an altered state of consciousness. I asked him if he was sober, and he said 'No.' "

In a new clip from Wednesday's explosive episode of Dr. Phil, Nick Gordon is seen sobbing and yelling about comatose girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown.

"I miss Krissi and Whitney so much! I want them back," he sobs.

And he adds, "I hate Bobby Brown!"

The episode, which features an interview with Gordon and his mother, Michelle, shows Dr. Phil saying to Gordon, "You've been drinking a lot though, right?"

Dr. Phil then urges Gordon to "go straight to rehab." But he appears to walk straight out of the interview.

The full show airs Wednesday at 3 p.m. on 11Alive.

Meanwhile, Bobbi Kristina Brown's aunt Leolah has posted a Facebook note urging Dr. Phil not to give Gordon a platform "to spin" the situation.
