Fulton County opens comment period for Annual Draft Action Plan

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County wants citizen review and comment on its Annual Action Plans and Consolidated Plan.  The Consolidated Plan requires local governments receiving federal funds directly from HUD, to determine strategies, community needs, long and short-term objectives, resources and proposed projects for submission as a combined planning and application document.

Supreme Court to hear Roswell cell phone tower case

ROSWELL, Ga. -- A fight over whether to put a cell phone tower in the city of Roswell has made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Four years ago, T-Mobile wanted to build a 108-foot cell tower in Roswell. It promised to disguise the tower as an over-sized pine tree.

After a heated debate at a city council meeting, the city denied the request, T-Mobile appealed to the courts saying it was never given specific and required reasons for denial.

Under the Telecommunications Act of 1996, local towns and cities have to provide specific reasons -- in writing -- why they won't allow a tower.

Constitutional law experts say that brings up a much bigger question.

Woman's body found at Roswell hotel, suspect in custody

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Roswell police have made an arrest after a woman's body was found in a hotel breezeway Thursday morning.

Guests at the Atlanta Hotel on Old Dogwood Road discovered the remains of 51-year-old Beverly Carol Arnold at around 6 a.m.

Arnold's body was wrapped in a bloody sheet and left in a second-floor breezeway, according to police. Investigators searched the breezeway, Room 204 at the hotel and a dumpster behind the building.

Early Friday afternoon, Roswell police announced a suspect in Arnold's death had been arrested. The suspect was picked up on a parole violation warrant. Because the suspect has not yet been charged with murder, that person's name has not been released.

Police said they see quite a bit of crime in the area around the hotel, including drug use and prostitution, but rarely do they investigate something as serious as murder.
