Vigil held for missing Morehouse student
News

ROSWELL, Ga -- A prayer vigil was held Tuesday night in Roswell for a missing Morehouse student. Friends, church members and family got together and prayed for the safe return of Ben Jones, 22, of Roswell, who has been missing for 10 days.

Organizers of the prayer service outside World Harvest Church, where the missing student's family are members, said they did not want the ceremony to be mournful. They wanted it to be hopeful.

Duvall Smith is Jones' best friend. They played football together at Roswell High School. Smith plays football and Georgia State and worked out with Jones on Friday, May 17, 2017. The next day, one day before Jones was supposed to graduate from Morehouse, he disappeared.

Smith wants his friend to know he has the support of the whole town. "They just want to see him well and just want to have him back and then everything else can be sorted out after that," Smith said. "Right now we just want him to know that we want him back and want to make sure he's alive and healthy."

Jones' parents found out their son was not on the graduation list for Sunday's graduation. His father said his son never told him he wasn't walking. "There is nothing he is dealing with that we can't handle together," Richard Jones said. "So please contact us, let us know that you are well if you are able to."

"None of this is characteristic or reflective of Benjamin so you drive yourself crazy with the possibilities of all the things that could be going on," his father added."

His son drives a Gold 1999 Lexus RX-300 SUV. It has a Georgia tag BCP-5147.

Roswell police are investigating his disappearance as a missing person's case. Anyone who knows where Ben Jones is should call them at 770-640-4100.
