Pike Nurseries hiring 250 seasonal employees

(WXIA) -- Spring is just around the corner, and Pike Nurseries is preparing to hire 250 people for one of its busiest seasons.

The nursery chain, which has locations throughout metro Atlanta, will hold a career fair on Friday, Feb. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at its Roswell location (615 West Crossville Road).

Job seekers can also apply at any Pike Nurseries location. The stores are looking for anyone who is passionate about gardening.

Pike Nurseries recycling Christmas trees

(WXIA) -- Do you still have your Christmas tree? Pike Nurseries is holding a tree recycling event through the end of January.

Customers can bring their live trees to any Pike Nurseries location until Jan. 31. The trees will be chipped and recycled; Pike Nurseries plans to turn Christmas trees into compost and other environmentally friendly materials.

Pike Nurseries will also come to customers' homes and pick up their trees for $50.

Pike Nurseries to host Gardenfest

(WXIA) -- Now that fall is almost here, it's time to start thinking about seasonal gardening.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, all Pike Nurseries locations will hold a free Gardenfest event to prepare customers for the change in seasons.

Gardenfest festivities will include discounts on merchandise throughout the store, as well as free appetizers and wine samplings. Five percent of the event's proceeds will be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension sponsors free workshop for budding entrepreneurs

ATLANTA -- Have you ever considered starting your own home-based business? Fulton County Cooperative Extension will sponsor a free workshop on Starting a Home-Based Business on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System’s Central Library, 1 Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta.

Participants will gain valuable information to help them start and maintain a successful home-based business. Specific topics will include how to identify fraud and scams billed as business opportunities, space and time needs, identifying factors that contribute to success and much more.

Fulton County Housing Information Session focuses on supportive housing for veterans

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Veterans or family members of veterans who want to learn about supportive housing for homeless veterans can participate in a Wednesday, Sept. 25 Housing Information Session.

The Veterans Housing Services session will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Alpharetta Branch Library located at 238 Canton Street. Iola Green, Director of the Housing and Urban Development/Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD/VASH), will serve as the presenter.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development/Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)  and rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics.
