Rural/Metro Ambulance to host coat drive

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Rural/Metro Ambulance will hold a "Christmas in July" coat drive for local children in need.

Everyone is invited to stop by Rural/Metro's Roswell office from Thursday, July 26 through Tuesday, July 31 and drop off a new or gently used coat. The donations will be given to a local Salvation Army chapter.

"We couldn't think of a better time to collect coats than during the summer as the heat is pounding down on us," Rural/Metro division general manager Tony Anteau said in a statement. "We want to make sure that this winter, everyone in our community feels almost as warm as they do right now."

Rural/Metro's office is located at 250 Hembree Park Drive, Suite 112.

Centennial High School Gets New Pergola

Centennial High School Gets New Pergola

The Environmental Club at Centennial High School started a campus garden and outdoor learning area five years ago. "The Rock Garden" is named for two large boulders in the area. Thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the students, the grassy area has grown to include nine raised vegetable beds, fruit trees and shrubs.

Michael Joseph, a project manager with MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers], recently volunteered his time and expertise to help build an attractive pergola to mark the entrance to The Rock Garden. MOSAIC Group also provided supplies for the construction project.

The nearly 50 students who are members of the Environmental Club raised funds from paint recycling events to purchase the Lawn Master do-it-yourself kit from Home Depot.

Centennial High School is located off Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell. The club sponsor is Julie Burroughs, a math/TAG teacher. Additional assistance is provided by Anne Kennedy, a master gardener and parent volunteer.

Tools 4 School

Tools 4 School

ATLANTA -- Can you believe it’s just a few short weeks before the school bus will be rounding the block again?

Act Together Ministries needs your help to collect school supplies for children in need in five north metro counties: Forsyth, N Fulton, Cobb, Cherokee, and Gwinnett. With your help, we will set up our 4th annual school supply “store” that allows children the opportunity to shop for their own school supplies. The children love picking out their favorite color backpack, selecting pencils with a preferred cartoon character, and getting the exact items listed on their school supply list. Parents in our program contribute $5 toward the event so that they have the honor of taking ownership. No one wants to wait in a hand out line and be labeled “Needy.” In addition to receiving school supplies, the children get haircuts, medical/dental screening, lunch, and enjoy crafts, games and other fun activities.
