Want to be a Fulton County principal for a day?

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Think you've got what it takes to comfort a crying kindergartner? Manage the morning carpool? Talk to a team of teachers who are preparing lesson plans and need feedback?

The Fulton County School System is calling for local business and community leaders to participate in its Principal for a Day program and try out school administration -- but only for a day.

By tackling many of the regular duties that school leaders face, these new "principals" learn how rewarding -- and demanding -- it is to be a modern educator.

Now in its fourth year, the Principal for a Day program allows real principals to hand over the keys, in a manner of speaking, and create a community partnership that strengthens the educational experiences of everyone involved.

Activities range from staff meetings, parent conferences, classroom observations, lunchroom and carpool duty, and all of the other unexpected events that occur throughout a typical principal's day.

The temporary principals will step into their new roles between Monday, Nov. 14 and Friday, Nov. 18.

Anyone who is interested in participating should fill out the official form and send it to Michael Davis, chief of staff for Fulton schools, at davisma1@fultonschools.org or fax it to 404-763-6798.

The Principal for a Day event coincides with American Education Week, which is sponsored every year by the National Education Association.
