Small Business Administration offers drought aid

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Small Business Administration announced Monday that it will accept applications for loan assistance for Georgia enterprises in 12 counties affected by the drought.

The aid program targets farm-related and other entities not covered by aid from the Department of Agriculture.

The eligible counties are Banks, Barrow, Cherokee, Dawson, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin and White.

The loans are intended to cover fixed costs such as payroll and scheduled debt payments. They are capped at $2 million with terms up to 30 years. Interest rates are 3 percent for non-profits and 4 percent for small businesses. The SBA determines the amounts and specific terms.

The application deadline is Apr. 22, 2013.

Falcons to take over Eggs & Enterprise

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons will "rise up!" and take over the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce's next Eggs & Enterprise breakfast event.

Jim Smith, the Falcon's chief marketing officer and SVP, will attend the Aug. 28 meeting to talk about the team's upcoming season and many community engagements.

Smith will take the place of Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy, who had a conflict come up, according to a statement from chamber president Brandon Beach.

State Farm brings 500 jobs to metro Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that Georgia's largest writer of homeowners policies will bring 500 jobs to a new operations center in metro Atlanta.

Deal made the announcement Friday that the jobs for State Farm will be located at the recently leased Atlanta Perimeter Operations Center located near Perimeter Mall.

Some existing State Farm employees will work at the new office, but it will be staffed predominantly by new hires. The company will look for the new hires to handle sales, service and claims for policyholders.

The office is expected to open later this year.

Dennard Conference Center at Atlanta Technical College located at 1560 Metropolitan Parkway SW in Atlanta, GA 30310.  The Board will elect officers for the program year, which begins July 1, 2012

Job fair in Roswell Tuesday

ATLANTA -- The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Labor, will be hosting a job fair for their North Fulton neighbors. 

The job fair will begin around 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14 at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center in Roswell. 

About 50 companies are anticipated, and all are invited to attend. The job fair will conclude at around 1 p.m. 

The Roswell Adult Recreation Center is located at 830 Grimes Bridge Road in Roswell.
