ROSWELL, GA -- Randy Waters, a sports anchor for WXIA/11Alive, was one of nearly 30 professionals to attend River Eves Elementary School's fourth annual Career Day on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Randy shared stories about the lifestyle of a reporter, including the commitments and rewards that come with success. He even revealed that he once worked on a special assignment for 30 hours straight.

Third, fourth and fifth grade students pre-selected three topics that interested them and participated in corresponding sessions to learn about different careers. Their excitement about their futures was palpable.

"These students tremendously enjoy learning about careers they may wish to pursue in the future," said River Eves principal Neil Pinnock.

Solar System Designed and Installed by Radiance Solar 

Kennedy Business Centers LLC. has announced the completion of a 100kW solar photovoltaic system at their commercial business park in Alpharetta, GA.   The array was designed and installed by Atlanta-based Radiance Solar, and is participating in Sawnee EMC’s Net Energy Metering Program, which pays Kennedy for every kilowatt-hour of solar energy produced.

The 100kW photovoltaic system is one of the largest roof-mounted photovoltaic systems in the state of Georgia, consisting of 450 Schuco solar modules. The array was designed and engineered by Radiance Solar to maximize solar power production and feed over 133,650 kWh of clean energy into the electric grid every year.

Two More Georgia Banks Fold

ROSWELL, GA -- Georgia regulators closed American Trust Bank of Roswell and North Georgia Bank of Watkinsville on Friday, the Peach State's third and fourth bank failures this year.

Fifty-five Georgia banks have now failed since the beginning of the banking crisis in August 2008.

Renasant Corp. of Tupelo, Miss., acquired some of the assets, and all of the deposits of American Trust, which operated three Metro Atlanta branches in Roswell, Alpharetta and Cumming. Renasant acquired $147.4 million of American Trust's $238.2 million in total assets; the remaining assets will be retained by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and sold later. Renasant also acquired American Trust's $222.2 million in deposits.

Renasant said it submitted a "discount bid" of $18.3 million for American Trust with no deposit premium.

Keep Roswell Beautiful Looking for Green Businesses

ROSWELL, GA -- Keep Roswell Beautiful, an organization that promotes environmental responsibility and action, is looking for businesses that show environmental sustainability and responsibility.

The Green Business Designation Program was created to recognize Roswell businesses that are recycling, taking water conservation measures, using electricity wisely and otherwise doing business in an environmentally friendly fashion.

The program is divided into three levels, with each level building on the next.

The first level includes a pledge, becoming a Business Partner of KRB, designating a contact person within the company and completing three items in each category -- Pollution Prevention, Energy Conservation, Solid Waste Reduction and Water Conservation.
