Man identified in fatal Roswell accident

ROSWELL, Ga. -- Roswell police are investigating a fatal accident that happened early Sunday morning.

Police said the wreck happened on Martin Road east of Hillside Drive.

According to department officials, they arrived at the scene at about 4:20 a.m. where they found Jonathan Ward Jaros, 20, of Roswell dead.

Police said that the initial investigation suggested that the Honda Accord Jaro was driving ran off the road and hit a tree while traveling east on Martin Road.

Police are still investigating the accident.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- No arrests have been made in the death of a man who was stabbed inside a Cobb County home.

The body of 55-year-old Joseph Christopher Fry was found Friday evening inside a house in the 5000 block of Alabama Road.

Police responded to the home after receiving a call about a stabbing. They have not yet identified any suspects or determined a motive.

The investigation into Fry's death continues.

Fulton County Fire Rescue Department urges residents to protect against CO poisoning

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The Fulton County Fire Rescue Department urges every resident to learn the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 150 people in the Unites States die every year from accidental non-fire-related CO poisoning associated with consumer products, including generators and other products including faulty, improperly-used or incorrectly-vented fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces.

“Because CO is odorless, colorless, and otherwise undetectable to the human senses, people may not know that they are being exposed,” states Chief Larry Few, Fulton County Fire Rescue Department. “Although the popularity of carbon monoxide alarms has been growing in recent years, it cannot be assumed that everyone is familiar with the hazards of carbon monoxide poisoning in the home.”

ROSWELL, GA (WXIA) -- A storm blasted Soft Pine Trail in Roswell Monday afternoon with an inch of rain and marbles of hail – and one fallen tree.

The tree landed on the house of 92-year-old Yolanda Rossi.

"I heard the weather was going to be bad, but not that it was going to be that bad," she said. "I'm OK, but you know, the nerves."

The tree took a corner of her living room.

ROSWELL, Ga. -- An 18-year-old woman was killed in a two-car accident in Roswell over the weekend.

The wreck happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Pine Grove Road at Knoll Terrace, near the entrance to the Parc at Pine Grove Bluff subdivision.

Investigators said Christina Marie Wenke turned left onto Pine Grove Road from Knoll Terrace, where her Honda Accord was struck on the driver's side door by a Nissan pick-up truck. The truck then went down an embankment and hit a tree.

Wenke was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, 17-year-old Ernesto Resendez-Gomez, was taken to North Fulton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

Wigwam Fest aims to become next big Atlanta festival

ROSWELL, Ga. -- At the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, the next three Sundays will be home to the Wigwam Fest. If Jennifer Lingvall has her way, the word 'wigwam' will become like Dogwood or Music Midtown -- a crowd-drawing festival of a different sort, where you can do and try everything.

"Some of the classes include yoga, stand up paddle boarding, clean eating chefs, inspirational speakers," Lingvall said.

Lingvall was a busy event planner in Atlanta. "I worked on festivals and events, more like the raging drinking kind," she said, laughing.

That was until 2012, when she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at the age of 31.

"My cancer was very aggressive. On the three grades, I was grade three and off the charts. In addition to eight rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy, I did everything under the sun," she said.

3 things to know before filing a tax extension

With this year’s tax deadline rapidly approaching, you may find that filing an extension is a good option for you. But before you plan to do that, here are three things you’ll want to keep in mind.

Taxes are due April 15. The extension only gives you additional time to file your return; it is not an extension of time to pay the tax that may be due. The assessed tax, even if you have not yet determined how much it is, is due by the April 15 deadline.
